Attracting Martins To Your Backyard With Purple Martin Houses

One way to ensure the attraction of martins to your yard, is to place your purple Martin houses near a body of water. If you are building the Martin houses yourself, then you should search online for various charts and floor plans you can use for martin houses, depending on your type of yard.

After your martin houses have been set up in your yard, you will notice a couple of birds arrive and start nesting. At one time, it was believed that these birds came to scope out the new breeding places for the flock, but the birds are really just the first to arrive to your martin houses on the way back to their nesting site from the year before.

After a period of time, you may notice the birds will arrive at the martin houses around the same time every year. You should cover the houses, until it is time for the martins to migrate to your region.

Industrial Processes For Hot Composting

Hot composting or thermophilic composting is not as well known, because the process is more complex, and it does not often happen in backyard gardens, but rather in large industrial processes, breaking down a larger amount of materials, including materials that would be difficult to breakdown in the backyard composting process, to create huge amounts of compost.

The process involves heating the material up through industrial methods whereby a certain type of bacteria is able to thrive. The thermophilic bacteria are able to decompose the material into a humus state much faster than your average backyard composting method. This method produces much less greenhouse gases and pathogens.

There are various methods to drive the composting process, limited by the available technology and the local regulation and standards as required by government regulations in the local area.

The process involves high power fans pushing air through the materials to be composted and computers monitoring the results as different amount of moisture is applied.

Tips And Better Ideas For Organic Gardening With Containers

There are many options for organic gardening with containers, including old plastic pots, watering cans bowls and canisters. When choosing a container, you need to ensure there is a drain hole near the bottom, so the pot will not be saturated with water, in order to avoid rotting the roots of the plant. But, you can also buy a wide range of terracotta and other containers in garden nurseries and department stores.

While you are at the garden nursery, you should also look for good organic soil for your containers. You can also use your own, by purchasing soil, and mixing it with sand and compost. The ratio would be equal parts of each.

Then, add in a bit of peat and organic perlite mixing it all together. This is the ideal type of soil that will absorb water, and let the excess water drain out. You also need to ensure, the soil is well watered when it goes into the pot, to give your plants a good head start.
