Companion Animals Protected With Animal Cruelty Laws

In the world, animal cruelty laws exist to varying degrees. For example, in the US, laws vary by state. The laws in other parts of the world are similar in the fact that they also vary from region to region.

However, as the world progresses, the animals are becoming more and more protected from human abuse because of the world wide efforts of groups that are trying to change global laws to reflect animal rights.

One group of creatures that are protected by animal cruelty laws are companion animals. This group includes dogs and cats, hamsters, ferrets and any other animal that is deemed to be a pet.

In the states, this is taken care of by state governments and not the federal government. In Europe, there is a union of fifteen countries that focuses on many issues, besides the welfare of animals in their respective countries.

This group has certain protection laws for companion animals, such as not causing pain or suffering and not abandoning the animal. Guidelines are also laid out as to who can own a pet in these countries.

Animal cruelty laws exist in the world to protect the animals. The countries of the European Union understand that animals are not property and therefore, their laws are more extensive.

The United States, on the other hand, is still coping with this issue because animals are viewed as property and not living creatures. The world has changed since the 1800s, and the time for the US laws to catch up is now, not tomorrow.

People must take a stand in the fight for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

Acts Of Omission And Animal Cruelty

One of the most gut wrenching things that happens on a daily basis is animal cruelty. For those who love animals, the sight of an abused creature can make them fighting mad. Understanding what constitutes cruelty to animals can be difficult for some to comprehend.

That is why many agencies that deal with this inhumane behavior have categorized the abuses into two types, thus making the topic easier to understand and perhaps to further help in the prevention of cruelty to animals.

Acts of omission or passive cruelty are forms of animal cruelty. This is not a form of physical cruelty, but rather it is a form of passive abuse and is perpetrated if the animal is left without water, food, shelter or adequate medical care.

Most of these cruelty cases occur because the pet owners are poorly educated about how to properly care for their domestic animals. If left untreated and unnoticed, a pet can perish.

Animal cruelty is wrong and inhumane and individuals who love animals can help to stop the inhumanity if they take the time to become educated and informed. Animal cruelty cases abound, so it is obvious that stopping the violence will take some time and effort.

However, if one is committed to helping, then perhaps one day all animals and humans will live peacefully together.

Helping The Fight Against Animal Cruelty

In order to help in the fight against animal cruelty, one only has to join a good group. Finding these groups can be as easy as turning on the television. No longer is a person limited to only helping their local animal shelter.

Thanks to the world of Animal Planet, people have been forced to face what is happening to companion animals, domestic animals, wild animals, farm animals and zoo animals all over the world. Help can be as easy as picking up the phone or using the computer to help out where help is needed the most.

One organization that is known all over the world for its fight against animal cruelty is PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). They have helped bring the plight of defenseless animals to the forefront more than almost any other group.

They improve the life of animals by taking on long term projects that most would consider pointless. However, they are the ones that brought the inhumane treatment of monkeys in labs to the forefront, and they continue to keep fighting to keep animals safe from human harm.

Both PETA and the ASPCA are well known groups that help in the fight against animal cruelty. However, they are other organizations that help provide a better life for our animal friends.

Almost every community has a local humane shelter that helps the animals that have been neglected, abandoned or hurt. If a person wants to contribute to one of these great organizations, then either a phone or a computer can help get them started.

A Better Yard With Butterfly Houses

Your best option is to place butterfly houses in a wooded part of your garden to attract butterflies and keep them there, with their favourite plants nearby.

Butterfly varieties like Angel Wings and Mourning cloaks would be most inclined to use the houses, but you can also use elm or willow inside the butterfly house to make the new tenants feel most comfortable.

When you know the best kind of plants to be placed nearby, then you can start searching for the right houses. You can start your search by checking out stores like the Butterfly and Nature Gift Store, where there is a wide choice of houses, with painted designs to complement your garden.

You can also choose to see the butterfly feeder and nectar, which can feed different types of butterflies. One option, is to place six ounces of nectar in the feeder, and fruit and special food for the butterflies to enjoy.
