The problem causing the disappearance of the honey bee is called Bee Colony Collapse Disorder, or BCCD. It causes the worker bees that are responsible for pollination to simple disappear; leaving their queen honey bee, a few hatchlings and lots of food behind.
With the current complexity of research into the problem of Bee Colony Collapse Disorder, lack of governmental response and the rate at which bees are dying, it is time for everyone to take a hard look at the world of agriculture, without the honey bees to pollinate. There is an area in China where pear and apple trees must be pollinated by hand, due to over-harvesting honey and through the use of pesticides.
It is possible that in the future other types of bees could be trained as pollinators. So far though, that experiment has not shown a great deal of promise. It could be that the result of Bee Colony Collapse Disorder may mean the honey bee will be replaced by human hand-pollination.
Human pollinators is an expensive alternative and doesn't provide a viable solution to the environmental problems associated with the disappearing honey bees.
