Lawn Seeding Area

Be aware when starting a lawn from seed that it is going to take a lot of care. This probably won't be a problem for you, if you are an avid gardener.

If you are replacing a very large lawn, however, you may want to hire someone to help you with this process. Results are better if you remove old grass before you begin seeding. This is be done by removing one foot sections of the old grass with a spade.

Fertilizer should be spread on your yard approximately one week before you plan on seeding your lawn. As a general rule, when you are preparing your soil to plant seeds, that is the best time to fertilize. Before planting time, read the information the seed company provides on the package as to how much seed to sow and when.

The next step is just waiting for your grass to grow! Seedlings should appear in seven to fourteen days, yet you will need to water your lawn if you experience a dry period. Watering is best done in the evening.

Again, use a fine mist so you don't dislodge the seeds. Try to keep pets and visitors off of the seeding area until your grass becomes established.
