Maintenance Tips For Snow Blowers

While snow may seem pretty to some people, to others it is nothing but the cause of never ending shoveling. In that case, snow blowers can become the most valuable piece of equipment to own, next to cars. And, when taken care of properly, a snow blower should last for many seasons.

Check the owner's manual on how to perform different types of maintenance, what safety guidelines you should follow and how to find dealer repair information. Be sure to check the snow blowers scrape bar condition by laying it on its side and checking for worn spots.

Replace the part before it becomes too worn out, as this will lessen the chance of damaging the housing, which could result in expensive repairs. It is also a good idea to check all of the belts, bolts and moving parts, and looking for signs of cracking or fraying.

Taking care of snow blowers involves lubing the drive and chassis. With a stage 2 snow blower consult the owner's manual first to determine the exact model and what type of lubrication should be used.

Adding a little methanol to the gasoline every few months will help to keep the carburetor from freezing. Also, siphon off the old gas at the end of the season and fill with fresh gas the following winter to keep the parts working properly.
